Arcadia Academy

Student Experience

Providing an environment for self-development through experimentation and critical analysis.

RESPONDING TO GLOBAL CHALLENGES

Students are engaged in global themes that require teamwork and the application of knowledge and skills for delivering solutions that positively impact the world they live in. Themes such as ‘Global Citizenship’ and ‘Save our Planet’ challenge students to develop projects that can be implemented with measured results. Students learn about empowerment and that their actions can make a difference.

DESIGNED LEARNING SPACES FOR CREATIVE THINKING

Creative learning spaces are designed to present different ways to explore ideas, collaborate in teams on projects and for developing skills in research, analysis, evaluation and communication.  The emphasis is on acquiring critical thinking and creative approaches to problem solving using cross disciplinary skills. Students are encouraged to break out of linear thinking and apply class room knowledge in original ways.

DESIGNED LEARNING SPACES FOR CREATIVE THINKING

The Arcadia school building was engineered and designed with the idea of creating a quality learning environment. Recent research at universities has clearly established how environmental factors affect student abilities to concentrate on tasks and develop learning skills. Teaching spaces at Arcadia were built for optimal natural light, temperature, and quality of air – all of which are significant contributors to the perception of the space, the ability to function, think and absorb information.

TEACHING FOR THE SKILLS OF TOMORROW

Arcadia is highly focused on encouraging student participation using a cross- disciplinary, activity-based curriculum.  A robotics lesson for example will use math and science elements; a field trip to a nature preserve uses biology, chemistry and physics to study environmental changes. Technology and media also plays a central role, as teams create content and environments outside the classroom are used as learning spaces. Balancing structured classroom lessons within an informal and flexible environment has proven to increase student participation.

PREPARING FOR HIGHER EDUCATION

Entry to the best universities is highly competitive. Although top A-Level grades provide the minimum requirement, a student’s portfolio of work beyond the curriculum is also part of the assessment criteria. Students are encouraged to develop theme based, socially relevant projects that adds to their personal portfolio.

UNIVERSITY ACCEPTANCE

A-Level students at Arcadia exhibit outstanding abilities for critical thinking and are admitted to top universities all over the world to continue their academic success.

LEARNING FROM NATURE

Montenegro’s natural environment is one of our richest classrooms. On field trips, students observe and study the country’s landscapes and ecosystems first-hand, from the virgin forest of Durmitor National Park to the Tara river canyon and the Skadar Lake eco-system. Biology, chemistry and physics come to life as they study environmental change in the field.

Field trips take students to observe and study the rich Montenegro environment, including trips to Durmitor National Park (the last remaining virgin forest in Europe), the Tara river canyon (Europe’s deepest canyon) and the Skadar Lake eco-system with over 280 different bird species including Dalmatian pelicans, mallards, curlews, grebes, eagles and herons.
